Hard Spun backon Derby route
FLORENCE, Ky. -- Hard Spun won the 500,000 Lane's End Stakes at Turfway Park by 31/4 lengths over long shot Sedgefield on Saturday to make amends for his only loss and get back on track for the Kentucky Derby.
It was the fifth win in six career starts for Hard Spun, trained by Larry Jones. His only loss was his last race, the Southwest Stakes at Oaklawn Park in January, a result that prompted Jones to abandon the Arkansas route to the Derby and come north for two preps in Kentucky.
Jones expects Hard Spun to run in the Blue Grass Stakes in three weeks at Keeneland over a Polytrack surface similar to Turfway's.
