We have met the terrorists, and they aren't us

EDITOR:
I'm writing in response to the letter last Sunday in which Humility of Mary nuns from Villa Maria expressed their political views of the Iraq War and referenced our American government as terrorists. Their direct quote which I refer to is, "we wrote at the start of this pre-emptive war to express our alarm at the terrorism being done in our name by our U.S. government."
What a sad state of affairs it is, both morally and ethically, when an order of nuns not only enters into the political fray, but refers to their own government, our great nation, as they did. The real terrorists are the animals who steered our airplanes into our buildings, slaughtering thousands. The real terrorists are the butchers who cowardly kept their faces covered as they wielded their swords and beheaded innocent journalists and workers. Then, with gleeful laughter (convinced that Heaven awaits and rewards such brutality), swung the severed heads, like trophies, while proudly being videotaped for all the world to see. The real terrorist was Saddam Hussein, who used chemical weapons on the infants of his own countrymen like Hitler did with people he felt weren't "worthy."
It's imperative that we understand that these terrorists believe that anyone who doesn't believe as they do is the enemy. And, as proven, they will use any means necessary to eliminate the enemy. Prayers are needed for protection from such fanatical terrorists.
As a Catholic, I am very disappointed in the sisters' portrayal of our wonderful government, flawed that it may be but nonetheless the best in the world, and their failure to recognize right from wrong, in this instance.
God bless America. And God bless the good sisters with a more clear understanding of who and what a terrorist is ... and isn't.
