Red and White Ball to be black-tie event

Proceeds will fund vital services for families in the Mahoning Valley.
LIBERTY -- The Mahoning Chapter of the American Red Cross will hold its 11th annual Red and White Ball from 6 p.m. to midnight May 12 at the Holiday Inn MetroPlex Centre.
Gary Gasser of Gasser Chair Co. has been named honorary chairman for the black-tie fundraising event.
Featured during the evening will be a dinner, a silent auction for items from around the world donated by local businesses and individuals, a live auction for trips and sporting event packages, and dance music provided by BackBeat.
Tickets are 125 per person and can be purchased by calling the chapter office at (330) 726-6063. Proceeds will fund local Red Cross programs such as disaster services, emergency assistance for military families, and other vital services.
Background
Gasser, president of Gasser Chair Co., graduated from the University of Cincinnati before joining the family business, where he was involved with advertising, catalogs, trade show displays, design and sales.
Named the corporate secretary in 1976, Gasser became treasurer in 1979 and progressed to president in 1988. Since his father's retirement in 2006, he has assumed the duties of CEO and chairman of the board. The firm celebrates its 61st anniversary this year. Gasser and his wife, Kathy, have three sons and two grandchildren.
Behind the scenes
Greg Greenwood is general chairman and Debbi Grinstein is co-chairman for the ball. Board members heading various committees are Kelly Becker, Dr. Denise Bobovnyik, John Donchess, Lou Joseph, Dr. Jenifer Lloyd, John MacIntosh, Jackie Motsinger, Monica Rafoth, Marie Scott, Rick Teaberry and Florence Wang.
In the last fiscal year, the local chapter provided almost 150,000 in assistance to more than 150 families that were victims of disasters and assisted nearly 200 families through the Armed Forces Emergency Services. More than 1 million has been raised for these vital programs in ten years through the Red and White Ball.
