YOUNGSTOWN - The Power of Drumming, Rhythm to Heal, to Learn and Balance Emotions is the topic of two Women in Touch programs sponsored by Humility of Mary Health Partners. The programs will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on April 26 at Ciminero's Banquet Centre, 123 N. Main St., Niles; and on May 2 at Mr. Anthony's, 440 South Ave., Boardman.
Patricia A. Evans-Morris, a licensed mental health and chemical dependency counselor and national presenter of rhythm therapy and yoga seminars, is the guest speaker. The cost of 15 per person includes dinner. Continuing education credits are available for nursing, social work and dietitian/technicians. Hope Ride slated
The American Cancer Society will have its inaugural Pan Ohio Hope Ride, a Cleveland to Cincinnati bicycle tour to raise awareness and funds for its Hope Lodges in these two cities, Aug. 9-12. The four-day, noncompetitive, multi-stage tour will start at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland on Aug. 9 and finish at Yeatman's Cove on the Cincinnati riverfront on Aug. 12, said Al Stabilito, Northeast Ohio public relations director for ACS. Hope Lodges provide cancer patients warm, caring, no-cost places to stay near leading cancer-fighting medical centers, said Don McClure, CEO of the ACS Ohio Division.
Each cyclist pledges to raise 2,650 to participate in the full Cleveland to Cincinnati route. In addition, riders can also participate in the one-day Finale Ride with a fundraising pledge of 650. The Finale Ride on Aug. 12 will travel from Yellow Springs to Cincinnati. To sign up for the ride or volunteer to help with the ride, visit www.cancer.org/hoperide. Breast cancer imaging
YOUNGSTOWN -- A new imaging system is in use at Forum Health for the detection and treatment of breast cancer. The Invivo DynaCAD, used with Breast MRI, offers computer-assisted diagnostics and MRI guided breast biopsy capabilities. Additionally, Forum Health is involved in national studies using MRI of the breast, said radiologist Dr. Richard G. Barr. Breast MRI is used to detect lesions or tumors in hard-to-diagnose women, such as those with dense breast tissue or at high risk for breast cancer.
Nominations wanted
COLUMBUS -- The Ohio Academy of Family Physicians (OAFP) is accepting nominations from the public for its 2007 Family Physician of the Year award. Nominees must currently be in practice and be a member of OAFP, have at least 10 years of post-residency experience, possess high professional standards; provide high-quality, family-centered care; and be involved in the community.
The deadline for nominations is April 6, 2007. The public is invited to send letters of recommendation to: OAFP Awards Selection Committee, Ohio Academy of Family Physicians, 4075 North High St., Columbus, Ohio 43214-3296. The 2007 Family Physician of the Year will be announced and recognized during OAFP's annual awards luncheon on Aug. 11, 2007, at Cherry Valley Lodge in Newark.
Cancer event
The American Cancer Society Spinning/Yoga for a Cure is April 21 in Boardman and May 19 in Salem.
The Boardman spinning time is 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Boardman Center Middle School, 7410 Market St. The Yoga time is 1 to 6 p.m. at the D.D. & amp; Velma Davis Family YMCA, 45 McClurg Road, in Boardman. Nationally known Master Spinning presenter Josh Taylor, from Mad Dogg Athletics, will lead a three-hour ride beginning at noon. Two 45-minute spinning sessions, taught by area instructors, will start at 10 a.m.
The Salem YWCA will have its spinning event on May 19.
Money raised from both events will benefit cancer research, prevention, support and early detection/treatment programs. The cost for participating ranges from 100- 500, and incentive prizes will be awarded. Beverages and locker room and shower facilities will be available to participants. Balance research
PITTSBURGH -- The University of Pittsburgh's Claude D. Pepper Center is seeking men and women 60 years of age or older to join a registry that is a key list of people willing to consider participating in future balance and mobility research studies. The Pepper Center is a research endeavor sponsored by the National Institute on Aging and dedicated to research that promises to improve the function and independence, including balance and mobility, of older Americans.
All men and women over age 60 who live within a 50-mile drive to Oakland - even those experiencing health problems - may join. For more information, call (800) 872-3653.

BOARDMAN -- Hitchcock X-ray/CT/MRI Center, 7250 West Blvd., has received a three-year accreditation in magnetic resonance imaging from the American College of Radiology, based on a peer-review evaluation of the practice.
