Loose pit bull shot dead by police
YOUNNGSTOWN — A loose pit bull dog in the 2700 block of Mariner Avenue was shot and killed by police around 11 p.m. Wednesday.
A resident of the street warned the officer that the dog was vicious. The officer knocked at 2703 Mariner and then heard the dog barking on the side of the house. As the officer ran to his cruiser, the neighbor called out "look out here he comes." The officer turned and drew his gun as the dog charged and fired once, hitting the animal in the upper thigh, reports show.
The dog ran to the back yard, bleeding heavily but still breathing. The officer then used a shotgun to kill the dog. Dave Nelson a deputy dog warden, removed the animal and left a notice for the owner. Nelson told police that he had been at the residence several times for the dog chasing people and attacking other dogs.
