Security fees to double at airport

VIENNA -- The increasing cost of security at the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport will be passed on to customers in the coming months.
Members of the Western Reserve Port Authority, which runs the airport, approved a measure Wednesday increasing security fees charged to airlines operating at the airport from 25 cents per flight per person to 50 cents, effective May 1.
Steve Bowser, director of aviation at the airport, said the fees will apply to Allegiant Air, which provides flights between the local airport and Sanford, Fla.; and two companies providing charter flights to Atlantic City: Casino Express and Gold Transportation.
In other business, port authority member John Masternick was given permission to negotiate with Rubenstein Associates of Liberty for the marketing and advertising company to carry out an Allegiant promotional program he proposed a couple months ago.
Masternick said the nursing home company Windsor House Inc., of Girard, of which he is president and CEO, uses an incentive program for its employees. It involves awarding trips on Allegiant to good employees as a bonus. Masternick proposed having Rubenstein market the idea to other area companies.
