Rayen School boy robbed by gang members


YOUNGSTOWN — A 16-year-old boy who admitted to police his affiliation with a gang called the North Side Lunatics said he was jumped and robbed by members of the gang as he walked home from The Rayen School.

He and his mother spoke to a deputy working at the school on Wednesday.

The Fairmont Avenue boy said he was walking on Fifth Avenue Tuesday afternoon when seven boys chased him and robbed him of $5, tennis shoes worth $100, a gold rope chain worth $600 and a gold earring worth $25.

The boy said he has been trying to break his ties with the gang. The names of seven boys listed as suspects were given to detectives. Police said the North Side Lunatics gang is suspected of using ink markers and paint to write the gang name and NSL on buildings.
