NHL ROUNDUP | Wednesday's other games

Sabres 5, Capitals 2
BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Daniel Briere and Derek Roy scored power-play goals, sparking the Sabres' sputtering special teams. Drew Stafford had two third-period goals and Clarke MacArthur also scored in helping Buffalo snap a season-worst three-game home losing streak. Dainius Zubrus had two assists in his first game against his former team; the Sabres acquired the forward in a deal with the Capitals last month. Buffalo converted two of four power-play chances to end a seven-game drought -- the team's longest since 2003-04. The Eastern Conference-leading Sabres (47-19-7) joined Nashville in becoming the second NHL team to reach the 100-point mark this season. Brian Pothier and Donald Brashear scored for the Capitals (26-35-13), 1-8-2 in their past 11 road games.
Sharks 4, Blackhawks 1
CHICAGO -- The San Jose Sharks weren't much better in beating the Blackhawks than they were Sunday when they lost in overtime to the Colorado Avalanche. But good teams don't necessarily need their "A" game to dispatch the Blackhawks these days, and the Sharks got enough from their top line and goaltender Evgeni Nabokov to leave town with the victory. The Sharks were outshot 29-20, but Nabokov made the necessary saves and got help from the post twice. Jonathan Cheechoo and Milan Michalek each scored twice. Joe Thornton had three assists. Cheechoo gave the Sharks a 1-0 lead at 7:12 of the first period. Thornton mesmerized the defense by weaving and curling throughout the Blackhawks' zone like a Globetrotter before giving up the puck to Scott Hannan at the left point. Hannan quickly advanced the puck to the bottom of the left circle for Cheechoo, who uncorked for his 26th of the season. But the Sharks continue to allow more scoring chances than they'd prefer, and Patrick Sharp eventually cashed in for the Blackhawks, making it 1-1 at 15:30 of the first. Winning the special-teams battle allowed the Sharks to take a 2-1 lead in the second period despite being outshot 10-6. Michalek netted the go-ahead goal with a power-play conversion midway through the second. Matt Carle tracked down the rebound of Craig Rivet's shot in the left corner, then whisked a pass to Michalek at the far post.
Rangers 5, Flyers 0
NEW YORK -- The New York Rangers used their fists and sticks to beat the Flyers, with Philadelphia's Todd Fedoruk getting knocked out by Colton Orr's punch. Brendan Shanahan had two assists in his first game back from a concussion sustained against Philadelphia. Henrik Lundqvist shined again, making 17 saves for his second shutout in three games.
