Greeting cards to featureDeGeneres' observations
CLEVELAND -- American Greetings Corp. will develop a line of 32 greeting cards with Ellen DeGeneres that will feature illustrations of the comedian along with her quirky observations.
"I look at having a line of cards as another extension of being a host; helping you wish your loved ones well, piggybacking on your birthday greetings," DeGeneres, 49, said in a statement Tuesday. "I like to be up in the middle of everything and doing it this way is much easier than crashing parties."
The cards are expected to be available in stores this summer.
DeGeneres has a syndicated talk show, "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," and was the host of this year's Oscars.
American Greetings has a new focus on humor cards, said spokesman Megan Ferington. It had a previous licensing deal with comedian Jeff Foxworthy.
Deputy: Reeves' cargrazes photographer
RANCHO PALOS VERDES, Calif. -- Keanu Reeves was behind the wheel of a Porsche that reportedly grazed a celebrity photographer standing in the path of the sports car, investigators said Tuesday.
The photographer fell to the ground and paramedics were called after Reeves' car allegedly struck the man at 7:30 p.m. Monday, said Deputy Ed Hernandez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
Reeves, 42, wasn't hurt.
The Associated Press left a phone message for a representative of the actor seeking comment.
"He grazed a paparazzi standing in front of his Porsche and the man fell to the ground," Hernandez said. It wasn't known how fast the Porsche was traveling.
Reeves was leaving a parking space in the Avenida Tranquila residential area near Los Verdes County Golf Course about 30 miles south of downtown Los Angeles, he said.
The photographer, whose name wasn't released, was taken to a local hospital for treatment of unknown injuries, Hernandez said.
The Sheriff's Department was investigating.
Reeves' films include "Bill & amp; Ted's Excellent Adventure," "My Own Private Idaho," "Speed," "Johnny Mnemonic" and "The Matrix."
Filmmaker targetsMargaret Thatcher
LONDON -- First it was the queen. Now the Iron Lady is getting the British film treatment.
London-based producer and distributor Pathe Productions said Tuesday it had commissioned a film about former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, set during the 1982 Falkland Islands war with Argentina.
Pathe said the film would cover the 17 days leading up to the conflict and would focus on Thatcher's controversial decision to go to war over Britain's sparsely populated possessions in the South Atlantic.
Argentina, which claims the islands, invaded them in April 1982, and its troops were evicted two months later by a British task force.
More than 200 British soldiers and 655 Argentinians died in the war, but Britain's victory boosted Thatcher's flagging popularity. Her Conservative Party went on to win the 1983 election by a landslide, and she remained in power until 1990, transforming British society with her free-market policies.
Pathe said the conflict forced Thatcher to "confront her private fears, face down the men who doubted her and forge the image that even today casts a shadow across the political landscape."
