Guilty plea in shooting

YOUNGSTOWN — A man who shot a taxi driver in January 2005 and pleaded guilty today to attempted murder and aggravated robbery faces 11 to 38 years in prison when he is sentenced at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday by Judge John M. Durkin of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.

Hubert Floyd Jr., 43, of Bennington Avenue, pleaded guilty as charged on the day his trial was to begin. Each charge carries a firearm specification, and Floyd also pleaded guilty to a repeat violent offender specification and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

He was charged with shooting Julio Rivera, 37, of Early Road, an Independent Taxi driver, in the neck on the city’s East Side. Rivera, who survived, had picked up Floyd as a passenger, and Floyd shot Rivera in a robbery attempt, police said.
