SMOKING BAN

SMOKING BAN

Requirements

Here are some points of Ohio’s ban on smoking in public places:

Businesses must post signs, in color, noting that the establishment is smoke-free.

The establishment can only provide ashtrays or receptacles for disposing of smoking materials. Otherwise, they are not allowed to be used or displayed.

Patios used for smoking must be open to the air.

Smokers must stand 20 feet from the building when smoking.

Violations for both businesses and individuals begin first with a warning letter. Subsequent individual violations will result in $100 fines, where the business could see fines up to $2,000.

Violations can be reported through mail to the Ohio Department of Health, e-mailed to nosmoke@odh.ohio.gov or telephoned to (866) 559-6446.
