Quaker City Raceway sale falls through
SALEM — The sale of the Quaker City Raceway by Dan Swindell to Mark Mazzant has fallen through.
Mazzant, of Ellwood City, Pa., confirmed today that the sale is off. He had agreed earlier this year to buy the drag strip, which has been for sale for several years. Mazzant is also a racer.
When Swindell put the race track up for sale by auction in February, he got no response after asking that bidding start at $1 million.
Swindell has said he has about $3 million in the property. Swindell could not be reached today. The track is in its 50th year, and fans were happy that drag racing would continue at the facility in Green Township in Mahoning County.
The future of the track isn’t clear. The raceway’s Web site says there will be races at the track next Saturday.
Corey Ward, promoter of the Steel Valley Super Nationals, said earlier this week that the super nationals will continue through 2011.
