New visitors bleachers on hold in Warren

WARREN—The Warren Board of Education rejected a bid for new bleachers on the visitors ‘side of Mollenkopf Stadium, and is now waiting for other bids. District business manager Mark Donnelly said the district asked for bids too late in the year, and that’s why only one was received.

The projected total the district had in mind was $290,000 and the bid received from Jack Gibson Construction of Warren was $427,000.   “The price was much more than we expected,” Donnelly said.

Donnelly said the other vendors that the district asked are too busy with projects that are already in progress.   “Other vendors are concerned with the upcoming football games,” he said.

For the safety of the visitors in the stadium, the upper bleachers will be closed off this upcoming year. Visitors will sit in the lower cement bleachers, which can accommodate approximately 2,500 people. The home bleachers were replaced last about seven years ago, Donnelly said, so they are still in good condition.
