Federal appeals court reinstates $75,000 award

CINCINNATI — A federal appeals court has overruled a federal district court judge who said a Youngstown woman did not qualify for $75,000 in punitive damages for being subjected to gender discrimination at General Extrusions of Boardman.

The decision said the case would be returned to the district court, so that it could write an order reinstating the $75,000 award.

Herbert Schuler Sr., chairman of General Extrusions, said he had not seen the decision yet and had no comment on it.

A federal jury had awarded Nancy Parker 50, of East Pasadena Avenue, $25,000 in compensatory damages and $75,000 in punitive damages for verbal harassment from co-workers during her employment as a shop worker in the fabrication department at the factory from August 2000 through February 2004, when she quit.
