Township plans to join buying consortium

AUSTINTOWN — To get better deals on products and services, the township is becoming a member of a buying consortium.

Trustees voted at their meeting Monday to join the Northeast Ohio Sourcing Office.

The consortium is open to all northeast Ohio governments.

Its Web site lists 42 members, including Boardman, Cleveland and Newton Falls.

The consortium will use the purchasing power of all its members to get competitive terms from vendors and service providers, says a resolution the trustees passed.

Township Administrator Michael Dockry said the township will likely use the consortium to buy auto parts first.

In other business at their meeting, trustees announced there will be no fireworks this year for the Fourth of July holiday.

Fitch High School’s stadium, where the fireworks are usually set off, is undergoing renovations, they said.
