YWCA names new board, hands out awards


YOUNGSTOWN — The YWCA of Youngstown elected a board of directors, recognized new members of the board and honored several members during an annual meeting at the YWCA, 25 W. Rayen Ave.

Susan M. Moorer, coordinator of diversity initiatives at Youngstown State University, was re-elected president of the board. Elected as her associate officers were Cheryl L. Waite, first vice president; Marseille Ballard, second vice president; Chris Gabrick, treasurer; and Shirley Poindexter, secretary.

Named to the board for 2007-2010 terms were:

Marilyn Montes, human resource director, Comfort Keepers.

Betty E. Patterson, former YWCA life skills specialist.

Norma J. Stefanik, urban designer, Center for Urban and Regional Studies at YSU.

Re-elected to the board were:

Ballard, administrative assistant, AFSCME.

Brenda Myers Cohen, freelance artist/designer.

Deborah Liptak, development director, Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County.

Serving on the nominating committee will be Ballard, Ruth K. Bradshaw, Rita Cintavey, June Ewing, Mary Lou Green, Verna Brown Kness and Goldia McCall.

Ballard and Cohen received Board Member of the Year awards, Kathy Wilson received the Volunteer of the Year award, and Yolanda Randall, lead teacher, was named Employee of the Year.
