Lions and Lioness clubs hold joint installation


CANFIELD — A joint installation ceremony was held by the Austintown Lions and Lioness clubs during a banquet held June 11 at A La Cart Catering in Canfield.

The Lions Club, which was celebrating 30 years of service, installed Bill Sywy as president of the organization. A retiree from General Motors of Lordstown, Sywy has served several consecutive one-year terms. He lives in Austintown with his wife, Pat.

Seated as his associate officers were: Jack Kochansky, first vice president; Harold Wilson, second vice president; Don Hoelzel, secretary; Larry Jensen, treasurer/Lioness liaison; Joe Valasek, tail twister/lion tamer; Jim Donnan, one-year director; Bob Melcher, two-year director; and Glen Ringer, eyeglass committee chairman.

Installed as president by the Lioness Club was Lori Stone, who has served several consecutive one-year terms. She is a retired U.S. Air Force master sergeant and lives in Austintown.

Inducted as her associate officers were Lou Skerkavich, vice president; Teresa McCallen, secretary; and Jane Grace, treasurer.

The installing officer was Deputy District Governor-Elect Don Heldman of the East Liverpool Lions Club, District 13-D.

Barb and Dale Sullivan were recognized for their assistance to Austintown Lions Club.

Special guests included Ruby Heldman, Zone 9 chairman, and spouses and friends of members.
