TAG Summerfest activities begin

WARREN — Summerfest 2007 is under way at the Trumbull Art Gallery, for both children and adults.

This year’s theme centers on Alexander Calder, and his magical mobiles. Calder is famous for his moving art.

Children involved in Summerfest, which runs through July 6, will learn how to make art move, explained Marianne Nissen, founder of Summerfest.

The number of students registered was about 100 on Wednesday, the first day, and is expected to increase. There are different fees for the various classes and workshops scheduled.

The 8- to 12-year-olds can construct stilts and join the stilt walking troupe during the parade at noon July 6 at Courthouse Square.

The younger pupils can be involved in “Balooney Tunes.” Children 5 years and older can make musical instruments out of balloons.

The Summerfest’s workshops are a way to bring the arts into the community, organizers said.

The Trumbull Art Gallery is celebrating its 50th year. Patricia Galgozy, director of TAG, said the arts are an important part of Warren, and TAG, along with Summerfest, is a way to get adults and children involved in the arts.

The gallery is at the corner of Pine Avenue and Market Street.
