Board will go statewide to hire new director

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — The Lawrence County Housing Authority board of directors rescinded a hiring rule made by a previous board, so it can take a search for a new director statewide.

The previous rule, passed in 1992, required the board to hire from within if any current employees were interested in openings. The board followed that rule Thursday when hiring a new administrative assistant to the director, but then rescinded the rule for the vacant executive director’s spot.

Members said they will hire from the Pennsylvania Civil Service Commission which will administer a test for the job.

In addition to rescinding the rule, board members also agreed to have a three-year forensic audit of the authority and an inventory of all the authority’s housing units.

Board member Mike Mancuso said the board wants the new director to start with a clean slate and a clear understanding of the finances and assets.
