NORTH LIMA — There’s a new thing going on for Beaver Township youths this summer.

For the first time, the Beaver Township Park Board is sponsoring summer youth day camp programs at Woodworth and Memorial parks.

Township children in grades one through eight are invited to participate. Registrations are being accepted through Monday, and there is no cost. Registration forms are available at the township administration office.

“This is something we’ve been wanting to offer our youth for quite a while and we’re happy we can do this now,” said Scott Conway, township park board chairman.

Earlier this year Beaver Township trustees hired new youth director Jodi Taylor, a Columbiana High School teacher and athletic coach. Taylor has served as summer youth counselor and youth director at Youngstown State University.

Conway said the township has worked with Taylor to create a program that offers youths a variety of activities.

The camps

Week-long day camp programs are being offered this month and next.

The first camp will run Monday through June 29 at Woodworth Park on Luther Avenue, between Market Street and Southern Blvd. Hours are noon to 4 p.m. daily.

The second camp will run July 16-20 at Memorial Park behind the South Range High School football stadium. Hours are 8 a.m. to noon.

Day camp activities will include team building, arts and crafts, sports instruction, animal/nature presentations, movies, community service opportunities and scavenger hunts. The park board is also offering several grandparent day activities.

Grandparents can bring their grandchildren to Woodworth Park from 2 to 4 p.m. July 11 for a day of safety lessons provided by area police and fire department personnel. A game day for grandparents and their grandchildren will be from 1 to 3 p.m. July 25 at Memorial Park. Activities will wrap up with a teen movie and bonfire from 7 to 10:30 p.m. Aug. 10 at Woodworth Park.
