Youngstown police arrest fugitive

YOUNGSTOWN — Gabriel S. Green, wanted as a fugitive on a charge of improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle, was arrested outside his Steel Street home by officers from the Mahoning Valley Violent Crimes Task Force.

Officers said they spotted Green, 22, getting into a car behind his home around 9 p.m. Wednesday. Green appeared nervous, and, though he said he had no job, he had $1,734 on him, police said.

Officers called in a K-9 unit to search the vehicle for drugs and the dog “hit’ on an area behind the driver’s door, police said. Officers found a plastic bag containing 10, 80 mg suspected OxyContin tablets, police said. Green was charged with possession of drugs and taken to Mahoning County jail.

He was arraigned Thursday and returned to jail in lieu of $25,000 bond.
