Wayans plans to rebut racial rant

Don’t call it a comeback.

Even though Damon Wayans hasn’t toured the country as a stand-up comedian in nearly a decade, the funnyman/actor has been keeping his stage chops sharp by performing regularly at Los Angeles club The Comedy Union.

However, a recent event compelled the New York City native to get back in the game.

Wayans, calling from his Los Angeles home, said his new gig is a rebuttal to actor Michael Richards’ use of a racial slur in a rant last year.

This rebuttal will be filmed for an eventual one-hour special, which Wayans intends to sell to the highest bidder. Naturally, HBO and Showtime are likely suitors, with a DVD release also in the works. This is a unique project for Wayans, who is actually putting up the finances for the production of the special. After decades in show business, Wayans has no problem investing in his career.

Wayans will at at Hilarities in Cleveland from Thursday through Sunday.
