Roth Brothers rally to remain undefeated


Five runs in the top of the seventh inning provided the team’s 11th win.

YOUNGSTOWN — Roth Brothers broke a 3-3 tie by scoring five runs in the top of the seventh inning Monday to post an 8-3 victory over Penn Ohio.

Roth Brothers remains unbeaten in Youngstown Class AA League action.

During the rally, Joe Marzano’s RBI single put Roth Brothers (11-0) ahead. Joe Bettura hit an RBI single and Eric Barone a two-run single. Jim Putko’s sacrifice fly drove in a run.

Dave Yost (3-0) worked six innings, scattered eight hits and struck out six. Eric Jones hit a double and two singles, and drove in two runs to pace Roth Brothers. Barone and Bettura each had two hits.

Jason Martin and Dave Deluca had two hits apiece for Penn Ohio.

Tamburro 12,
Youngstown Metros 8

Bo Cooksey pitched a complete game and even though he gave up 15 hits he held on as Tamburro prevailed at Oakland field.

Tamburro, behind 1-0 after two innings, scored three runs in the third inning, four in the fourth, two in the fifth and three in the sixth for a 12-4 lead.

The Metros sent nine players to bat in the bottom of the seventh inning as they scored four times on six singles and a stole base.

John Cashbaugh, Ray Jaminet and Rob Tamburro each hit two singles for Tamburro while Higinio Rivera hit a home run and single.

Tony Pozega, Tom Clayton, Cameron Cimino and Chester Kirkwood hit a double and single apiece for the Metros.

Warren AA League

WARREN — The Reds rallied for three runs in the top of the ninth inning as they clipped P.I.&I. Express 4-1 in Warren AA League at Packard Park.

Mary Yartz came on in relief in the fifth inning, allowed only two hits and struck out five to pick up the win.

Mike Johnson, Josh White and Nate Brown each had two hits for the Reds. Brandon Wood had three hits and Justin Lammon two for the Express.

Champion Marlins 2

WARREN — Jeremy Kros pitched a five hitter with eight strikeouts to pick up the win for Irish Pub at Packard Park.

The Marlins jumped out a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but Irish Pub took the lead in the bottom of the third inning as it scored three runs.

Jeremy Albani hit a pair of singles for the Irish Pub. Travis McCartney hit a double for Champion Marlins.

Class B League

STRUTHERS — Matt Weier pitched a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts to pick up the win for Astro Falcons (13-5) as they posted a 12-2 victory over Action Physical Therapy in Class B League at Cene Park.

Astro Falcons scored four runs in the second inning, three in the fourth and ended the contest with five more in the fifth.

Corey Susany, Mark Lapikas and Shane Wagner, who had three hits, each hit a triple for Astros.

For Action, two out of the three hits came from Jarryd Summers while driving in both Action (7-11) runs.

R&J Trucking 12,
Wharmby Sports 1

In another five-inning game, R&J Trucking’s Lou Coppola scattered three hits in evening his record (2-2).

Joe Iacobucci, Joey Wielbruda and Scooter Hargate had two hits apiece for R.J. Trucking (16-2).

Garen Ream hit a pair of triples for Wharmby (8-10).
