Croatian picnic scheduled for July 15

YOUNGSTOWN — Strossmayer Picnic Grounds on Smith Stewart Road, west of Belmont Avenue on state Route 193, will be the setting July 15 for a Croatian picnic to be sponsored by Sts. Peter and Paul Croatian Catholic Church.

Festivities will begin at 11 a.m. with a Tamburitzan Mass officiated by the Rev. Joseph Rudjak followed by a lamb, chicken and pork barbecue with haluski, sarma, fried chicken, potato salad, kolbassi and sauerkraut, and baked goods.

Patrons will have the opportunity to dance the kolo and Croatian line dances to the music of Od Srca and the Happy Hearts from noon to 3 p.m., and the Mikey Dee Band of Pittsburgh will perform from 3 to 6 p.m.

There will be games for children, and drawings for money and gift baskets will be held throughout the day with a grand-prize drawing at 7 p.m.
