Murder suspect is charged in other crimes
AUSTINTOWN — A man accused of shooting a store clerk to death in a robbery at an Auto Zone in Youngstown is now accused in a robbery at an apartment complex off Idaho Road.
Melvin T. Dixon Jr., 23, of Youngstown is accused, along with two others, in the death of Edward Agee, 52, during the robbery May 2, 2006, at the Auto Zone on McCartney Road.
Police have said they believe Dixon was the trigger man. He was indicted in February on charges of aggravated murder and aggravated robbery and is in the Mahoning County jail.
During the Feb. 6, 2006, robbery at the Central Park West apartment complex office, two women were bound and gagged with duct tape as two armed robbers demanded deposits. The women were uninjured.
Detective Sgt. Dan Kosco said Dixon is charged with four counts of kidnapping. One count for each woman deals with terrorizing, he said, and one count for each woman deals with kidnapping while committing a felony.
Dixon is also charged with one count of aggravated robbery and one count of safecracking, Kosco said.
He was arraigned in Mahoning County Court on June 13 and will appear again Wednesday at 9 a.m. for a preliminary hearing.
