Man shot in back on city’s South Side

YOUNGSTOWN — City police are investigating a shooting that sent one man to the hospital just after 9 p.m. Monday.

Officers found a man who said he goes by the name of “E” lying in the devil strip in the 100 block of Ellenwood Avenue on the city’s South Side.

The man had suffered a gunshot wound to the lower back and was listed in critical condition late Monday.

Officers questioned several people living in the area near the shooting, but no one had any information to offer police.

The shooting victim, before being taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center, told officers a young man wearing a red shirt and blue jeans shot him. Officers found one shell casing at the scene.
