Man reports home invasion, being beaten

YOUNGSTOWN — Police said a man who moved into a house in the first block of East Philadelphia Avenue got a very cold welcome from some people who may live in the area.

The 46-year-old man told police he was in his living room around 11:40 p.m. when a man and two women burst in through the unlocked front door and began yelling at him, asking why he had moved into their neighborhood without letting them know.

The accuser said the man then asked to use his cell phone and he handed it over. Moments later the three began to punch and kick him and stole $25 from him, he said.

They then began to search through the house and the man took the opportunity to run out the front door and flag down a passing police car.

Police searched the house, but the assailants had fled.

The victim told police he thought he had seen the three around the neighborhood earlier in the day.

He was treated at the scene for a cut to his nose and bruises to the face and body, police said.
