FAST FACTS | New middle school

Austintown Middle School on Raccoon Road will open this fall. It replaces the old middle school on Mahoning Avenue, which has been sold and will be torn down, and Frank Ohl Middle School, which will house fourth- and fifth-graders. Some facts:

A bond issue for $26 million was passed by voters in November 2004 to finance the new building. Of that money, $25.5 million was budgeted for the new school and $500,000 was budgeted for a new bus garage.

The building covers almost 175,000 square feet.

The building was built under budget by $1 million. The final cost was $24.5 million.

The school will house pupils from sixth through eighth grade.
