Disabled man falls in Shenango River

SHARON, Pa. — A disabled man tumbled into the Shenango River this afternoon after his motorized wheelchair hit a bump.

Sharon Police Chief Mike Menster said people who saw 76-year-old Earl Biggart fall into the water helped pull him out and called police and firefighters for assistance. Menster said Biggart was moving along the riverwalk near the Connelly Bridge when his chair hit a bump and tipped over at 12:51 p.m. He rolled down an embankment and into the water.

The fire department had to strap Biggart to a board and pull the board up a ladder that was placed on the steep hillside. He was taken to Sharon Regional Health System's hospital for treatment.
