Local and national GE workers to vote on contract

Local union officials at General Electric Co. are gathering Wednesday to vote on a tentative contract agreement for 20,000 employees nationwide. No details on the four-year deal are being released in advance of this meeting, said Lauren Asplen a spokeswoman for International Union of Electrical Workers. The IUE represents about 320 workers at GE lighting plants in Warren and Austintown. The United Electrical Workers represent about 150 workers at a plant in Niles. The two unions jointly negotiated the tentative deal, which was announced Sunday.
