Dupree leads Chicago Sky to WNBA win against Sun

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (AP) — Candice Dupree scored 28 points and the Chicago Sky beat the Connecticut Sun 87-74 Sunday, giving the team more wins this season than it had all of last year.

Stacey Dales added 17 and Dominique Canty had 14 for Chicago (6-5), which finished 5-29 in 2006, its inaugural season.

Asjha Jones scored 22 points and had 12 rebounds for Connecticut. Lindsay Whalen added 12 points and the 5-foot-9 point guard pulled down 10 rebounds for the Sun, but finished with just three assists.

Four-game losing streak

Connecticut is on a four-game losing streak, the team’s longest since 2002, when the franchise was in Orlando.

The Sky led 40-34 at halftime, but Connecticut went on a 17-4 run after intermission to take a 51-44 lead.

Chicago regained the lead when Canty drove around 7-2 Margo Dydek with just over 7 minutes to play, and then hit a jumper on the following possession to make it 62-59. Dupree took over from there, scoring 11 points down the stretch.

Neither team scored until Dydek hit a putback two minutes into the game. The game was tied 8-8 when Chicago went on an 18-4 run. By the end of the quarter, Sun coach Mike Thibault had all his starters on the bench and Chicago had a 26-15 lead.

The reserves got Connecticut within 28-22 when the starters came back in with about 7 minutes left in the half.

The Sky have now won five of their last seven games.

Connecticut, which is in its ninth year, had won all four previous meetings between the teams, defeating Chicago by an average of 12.5 points.
