Brian Terlesky is
busy, young golfer
BOARDMAN — Brian Terlesky Jr., 7, has won several age-group golf tournaments recently, and has a full summer schedule planned.
Most recently Brian won the Pars Jr. World Tournament at River Golf Club in Augusta, Ga., shooting 69-65—134, or 8 under par on the par-71 course. That victory qualified him for the Callaway World Championship at Torrey Pines Golf Club in San Diego later this summer.
Brian has won four other tournaments already in June.
On June 2-3, he won the Exxon-Allied Waste Future Tour Championship at Greenville (Miss.) Country Club. He shot par (24) on the first round and 4 under par (20) the second round, to win a trophy and scholarship money.
On June 9, Brian won the Mutual of Omaha Drive, Chip & Putt sectional tournament at Cranberry Highlands Golf Course in Pittsburgh. He qualified for the regional tournament in Cleveland June 30, with a chance to advance to the national tournament in Orlando, Fla.
Also, Brian won the Parent-Junior tournament at Whispering Pines Golf Club in Columbiana, and the U.S. Kids Pennsylvania state tournament at Butler Golf Course. He shot 2 under 34 and won the event by 15 shots. That qualified Brian for the U.S. Kids World Championship.
Brian is the son of Brian Sr. and Christine Terlesky.
Worhatch will swim
at Ashland Univ.
BOARDMAN — Boardman High School’s Brian Worhatch will continue his swimming career as a member of the Ashland Univ. team.
A four-year letter winner, Worhatch qualified for the state meet three times at Boardman where his specialty was the butterfly and the freestyle.
He was a part of three relay teams that established Boardman school records.
Stepan inducted in
martial arts HOF
BOARDMAN — Charles A Stepan of Boardman was recently inducted into the initial class of the Taekwondo Hall of Fame.
Taekwondo is an international and Olympic martial art.
With 35 years of experience, Stepan is a 7th degree black belt.
Jake Dialesandro wins
Immaculate 5K race
AUSTINTOWN — Jake Dialesandro won the Immaculate Heart of Mary 5K race with a time of 16 minutes, 44 seconds.
Mike Smith ran 17:51 for second while Frank Natoli was third (18:10).
Penny Felger won the women’s race (21:06), ahead of Amanda Frost (21:07) and Susan Sarachen (21:07).
NEO Renegades in
national tournament
YOUNGSTOWN — The NEO Renegades, composed of local players, will compete in the AAU Junior National Girl’s Volleyball Championship in Orlando, FL.
On the squad are Belinda Hernon (Harding High); Alyssa Donahey (Lisbon); Jenna Tanner (Mohawk); Asyha Nickels (Girard); Katie Spatara (Boardman); Kelly Barzak (Howland); Ashley Venable (Liberty); Ashley Quay (Alliance); Jacci Wyman (Mooney); Sarah Pelini (Mooney); and Taylor Cene (Mooney).
Tom Moore of Mooney is the coach of the team that will compete in the 18-under division beginning today.
Pringle wins Yankee
Lake boxing meet
GIRARD — Scott Pringle of Girard took first place at the Yankee Lake Ballroom High School K.O. Boxing tournament. He won a second place silver medal last year at Struthers.
Chaney weight lifting
gets under way
YOUNGSTOWN — Football weight lifting at Chaney High School is scheduled Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays starting Monday at 1 p.m. in the high school gym.
John Protopapa, football coach, will distribute summer schedules. All students attending Chaney this fall are invited.
Paul Oakes, Chaney volleyball coach, will have open gym for conditioning at Chaney High for girls Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. until noon starting Tuesday.
Benefit road race
will be run July 21
YOUNGSTOWN — Social Action Republica’s 10 Miles to Cure Thirst race will be held July 21 at 9 a.m. in Youngstown to raise awareness and funds to build and repair wells in African villages that do not have access to safe water.
Registration will begin at 8 a.m. The registration fee is $15 and includes a free T-shirt for participants who pre-register before July 7.
The race will begin at the USA Parking lot next to BW3s in Federal Plaza.
Lasky earns black belt
SALEM — Natashia Lasky, 12 years old, a member of the Self Pro Martial Arts Studio in Salem and member of the Ne-Du-U-Kon-Tae, earned a Shodon⁄1st Degree Black Belt at Massillon Self Defense Academy.
Penn-Ohio football
game set June 29
BEAVER FALLS, Pa. — The Penn-Ohio Stateline Classic football game will be held at Geneva College June 29 at 7:30 p.m.
The Ohio all stars will practice at Firestone Park in Columbiana starting Monday from 6 p.m. until 8.

Public invited to meet
newest Browns
CANTON — For the third straight year, the Cleveland Browns rookies will take part in a special reception at the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The public is invited on Wednesday to meet the newest Browns rookies outside on the Plaza at the Pro Football Hall of Fame during the annual Browns Rookies Meet & Greet.
All of the team's 2007 draft picks, including first round selections tackle Joe Thomas and quarterback Brady Quinn, will be on hand from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The players will talk about their college careers and potential future with the Browns as well as be available for autograph opportunities.
Tickets for the 2007 Browns Rookies Meet & Greet, which include admission to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, may be purchased on the day of the event at the Hall of Fame's Box Office. Ticket prices for the event are $16 for adults, $10 for children (ages 6-14), and $13 for senior citizens. Discount coupons and complimentary admissions are not eligible for special events. Food, beer, and soft drinks will be availableevent.
The first 100 Browns fans to attend will receive a Cleveland Browns Mini Pocket Pro. In addition, fans can enter to win an NFL Riddell Browns helmet with all of the 2007 rookies' autographs.
