Turocy pitches Wharmby to win

STRUTHERS — Drew Turocy tossed a four-hit shutout with nine strikeouts and the Astro Falcons scored twice in the sixth and once in the seventh for a 3-0 win over Wharmby Sports Friday night in a Class B League game at Cene Park.

Turocy (2-0) also added a double, as did Mark Lapikas, while Mike Dota had two hits for Astro (12-2).

Mark Babyak had two singles for Wharmby (6-8). Scott Harmon allowed two runs in 52⁄3 innings.

Youngstown Express 5

Matt Pitzulo had three hits and three RBIs to lead R&J, while Mike Popio, Xavier Godoy and Dan Kubala all had two hits apiece. Jared Barker (3-0) allowed two earned runs over six innings and struck out five.

Kevin Cox and Chad Kobylanski had two hits each for the Express.

Rondinelli 2, Dave Sugar 1

Rondinelli’s Tyrone Wright outdueled Justin Shaffer.

Wright allowed one run on six hits and struck out two, while Shaffer allowed just five hits.

In the bottom of the seventh Rondinelli’s Andy Dobson drew an one-out walk, then stole second. Matt Stehany followed with an RBI double. Cory McGinnis also doubled for Rondinelli, while Tony Brunetti tripled.

Dane Dobson had two hits for Dave Sugar.

Youngstown AA

YOUNGSTOWN — Eric Jones had three hits, including a triple and double, and drove in a pair of runs to lead Roth Brothers (8-0) over Penn-Ohio 12-2.

Joe Iacobucci and Eric Barone both singled twice, Mark Nightingale tripled and Adam Cox and Jim Putko both doubled. Cox and Putko also drove in two runs each.

Greg Mentrek was the winning pitcher, allowing one hit over five innings. He also struck out five.

Jason Martin hit an RBI single for Penn-Ohio.

Tri-State College League

Chris Morris had two hits and hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth to lead the Youngstown Metros over Allegheny, 7-6, in the second game of a doubleheader.

Allegheny won the opener 5-2.

Dom Modarelli had three hits, while Lee Bainbridge doubled twice. Tom Clayton had two hits, including a double, and Cameron Cimino singled twice.

John Warren pitched three innings of relief to pick up the win.

In the opener, Bainbridge, Armani Johnson and Joe Irwin hit doubles for the Metros.

WARREN — Steve Liebal outdueled Jeremy Krol as Skiffey Neopolitan Dental edged Callahan’s Irish Pub 2-0.

Liebal struck out seven and allowed six hits. Krol fanned eight and gave up seven hits.

Josh Miller singled twice for Callahan’s.

Skiffey scored runs in the fourth and seventh innings.

Girard Hardware 2

Andy Todor, Brett Dutton and Brian Daugherty had two hits apiece for the Knights. Vasili Pahoulis and Torrie Frangiamore had a double each and two RBIs, and Rick DiMuzio had a two-bagger.

John Grabowski drove in both runs for Girard.

Noah Horning pitched four innings and Eric Nachreiner one, as they combined on a no-hitter.

Eric Lance doubled twice for Champion, while Lance Townsend hit a triple and Jason Johnson a double. Johnson also had three RBIs. Ryan Romack and Tom Popadak both singled twice.
