Woman won't be charged in store crash

CANFIELD —  A woman who drove through two store fronts in the Hilltop Plaza off U.S. Route 224 Thursday will not be charged, police reported Friday.

Jacqueline E. Troll, 78, of Salem was trying to park in front of Always Yours and Tickets Unlimited. She hit the gas instead of the brake, the police report said. She drove about 10 to 12 feet into the stores, witnesses said.

No one was injured in the accident. There were three people in the stores at the time —  John Hudock, who owns both businesses, his 9-year-old son and an employee.

Police Chief David Blystone said that Troll will not be charged because the accident occurred on private property, and there are few traffic offenses that can apply.

Blystone said that if a driver was impaired by alcohol or drugs, had no license or was being reckless, he could be charged. None of those offenses applied to Troll’s accident. Blystone said the department will send a request to the state Bureau of Motor Vehicles that it review whether Troll should keep her license.
