Anthony Napolitan set
for Dew Tour season

AUSTINTOWN — BMX Dirt champion Anthony Napolitan will be back for another action-sports season when the Dew Tour kicks off June 21-June 24, in Baltimore.

The 21-year-old Napolitan, of Austintown, is currently in London, but he’ll return for BMX dirt prelims next Thursday for the Panasonic Open. The finals are Friday night.

After winning the BMX Dirt title in October, Napolitan received several big endorsements; as a result, sponsors were eager for him to expand his scope of competition.

That’s why Napolitan has added the BMX Park discipline to his repertoire. In Baltimore, BMX Park prelims are June 23, followed by finals on June 24.

His 16-year-old brother, Ron, will also try to qualify for the Park event in Baltimore. Ron is a sophomore at Fitch.

During the offseason, Anthony traveled to Singapore and England and trained on dirt trails in Las Vegas.

Some of his sponsors are Hoffman bikes, SoBe energy drinks and Levi Strauss.

The Dew Tour also has a stop in Cleveland, July 19-22.

Accident keeps Blaney
from gaining ground

Dave Blaney’s woes continued last Sunday when the Hartford native was knocked out of the Pocono 500 via accident on lap 106.

“Boy, I hate to go around blaming things on luck, but we just can’t seem to buy a break here this season,” the NASCAR Nextel Cup driver said. ”Last weekend in Pocono, we weren’t setting the world on fire, but we were at least going to survive, and we just ended up being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Every time we think we’re going to go to the track and be able to make up some ground on the top 35, we end up getting ourselves even farther and farther behind.”

On the positive side, Blaney remained in third place in the Busch Series drivers’ point standings. He’ll compete in the Meijer 300 Saturday evening at Kentucky Speedway. Blaney will fly to the Sparta, Ky., track after final Cup Series practice Saturday to compete in the event.

This is the second consecutive weekend that Blaney will travel back and forth from the Cup Series and Busch Series races.
