PHILADELPHIA — Aaron Rowand hit a grand slam and drove in five runs, helping Philadelphia complete its first home sweep this season. Wes Helms hit his first homer of the season and the Phillies won for the seventh time in nine games. Jim Thome was 2-for-3 and received a standing ovation in his first game in Philadelphia since the Phillies traded him to the White Sox in 2005.

SAN FRANCISCO — Aaron Hill had a two-run single in Toronto’s five-run fourth inning and Matt Stairs drove in two runs as the Blue Jays avoided a three-game sweep and handed Tim Lincecum his first major league loss. Dustin McGowan (3-2) won his third straight decision for the Blue Jays, allowing two runs and seven hits in six innings. Jeremy Accardo finished for his eighth save. Lincecum (2-1) allowed seven runs and seven hits in 32⁄3 innings, the rookie’s shortest outing.
Yankees 7, Diamondbacks 2
NEW YORK — Mike Mussina pitched into the eighth inning and Alex Rodriguez hit his major league-leading 25th homer as New York extended its season-high winning streak to eight games. Hideki Matsui hit a three-run homer and Jorge Posada also connected for New York (32-31), which has won 11 of its last 13 to move above .500 for the first time since it was 8-7 on April 20. Mussina (3-3) allowed two runs and six hits in 72⁄3 innings to earn his first win since beating Texas on May 9. Conor Jackson homered for Arizona, which has lost five of six.

BOSTON — Todd Helton drove in four runs and Brad Hawpe hit a three-run homer as Colorado roughed up Curt Schilling in his first start since his near no-hitter. Colorado had six hits in the first two innings as it took a 3-0 lead. Hawpe’s ninth homer made it 6-2 in the fifth. Helton hit a three-run double off Javier Lopez in the sixth. Josh Fogg (2-5) won for the first time in seven starts, allowing two runs and seven hits in five innings.
Brewers 3, Tigers 2
DETROIT — Bill Hall hit a go-ahead, two-run homer in the eighth inning for Milwaukee. Fernando Rodney (1-5) was one out from getting through the eighth with a 2-1 lead before Hall homered. Chris Spurling (1-0) didn’t give up a hit while getting two outs in the seventh for the Brewers. Francisco Cordero earned his major league-leading 23rd save.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Jake Peavy allowed two hits in seven innings and San Diego hit three home runs in snapping a season-worst four-game losing streak. Adrian Gonzalez, Kevin Kouzmanoff and Terrmel Sledge went deep for San Diego. Peavy (8-1), who lowered his NL-leading ERA to 1.82, struck out eight while limiting the Devil Rays to fifth-inning singles by Carlos Pena and Dioner Navarro.

CINCINNATI — Vladimir Guerrero emerged from his deep slump by driving in four runs and John Lackey became the major leagues’ first 10-game winner. Guerrero, who was in an 0-for-14 slump, drove in runs with a grounder and two doubles off Kyle Lohse (3-8). The four RBIs matched Guerrero’s season high. Lackey (10-4) gave up four hits and three runs — one earned — in six innings. He has won six of his last seven starts.
Cubs 3, Mariners 2
CHICAGO — Sean Marshall pitched eight strong innings, and Chicago snapped Seattle’s season-high five-game winning streak. Mike Fontenot’s two-run single with the bases loaded in the fifth broke a 1-1 tie and sent the Mariners to just their second loss in 11 games. They had won the five straight in their final at-bat. Marshall (3-2) won his third straight start, allowing two runs and seven hits. Richie Sexson led off the second for the Mariners with his 10th homer.

MINNEAPOLIS — Carlos Silva threw his second career shutout and Torii Hunter drove in two runs with a bunt single and a homer. Lew Ford and Justin Morneau added homers to support Silva (4-7), who scattered eight singles. Chipper Jones came off the disabled list to hit singles in each of his first three at-bats for Atlanta.
Athletics 7, Astros 3
HOUSTON — Mark Ellis hit a two-run double in the eighth inning off Dan Wheeler as Oakland rallied for the win. Eric Chavez added a two-run single during the five-run eighth and also homered for the A’s, who have won nine of their last 11. Jason Kendall’s leadoff homer in the sixth was his first since May 31, 2006, a span of 157 games and 619 at-bats. It ended the second-longest drought in the majors among active players.
Nationals 9, Orioles 6, 11 innings
BALTIMORE — Felipe Lopez tripled with the bases loaded off Baltimore closer Chris Ray in the 11th inning. The victory assured the Nationals a fourth straight series win on the road, a feat the franchise hasn’t accomplished in one season since the Montreal Expos did it in 2001. Jay Payton had four hits for Baltimore, sending the game into extra innings with the 1,000th of his career. Melvin Mora hit his ninth homer.
Cardinals 7, Royals 3
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Adam Wainwright allowed one hit in a career-best eight innings and Albert Pujols drove in three runs for St. Louis. Wainwright (5-5) had allowed only two baserunners — on a walk and an infield error — when Esteban German singled to left with two outs in the sixth to break up the no-hitter. Wainwright struck out three and walked two.
