COLUMBIANA COUNTY | Federal funding


Columbiana County commissioners have approved another round of federally funded projects for needy children and families. The programs approved Wednesday totaled $596,202. Spending on similar programs in recent weeks brings the total to $1.5 million. The latest programs are:

A home repair program through the Community Action Agency: $40,000.

A parent education program through the Columbiana County Counseling Center: $75,000.

A truancy diversion program through county juvenile court: $39,925.

A legal diversion program through county juvenile court: $51,313.

Funding for Project SOAR, which helps keeps pupils in kindergarten through grade six out of juvenile court: $53,300.

A juvenile intervention program for pupils in grades seven to 12: $66,048.

In-school, after-school and summer programming for eligible pupils in the Beaver Local Schools: $48,254.

A program through Burdman Group of Youngstown to provide career support and advancement help to eligible adults: $74,977.

A program through Creating Success Stories in Salem to help single parents excel: $23,777.

A program with Kent State University’s Salem and East Liverpool campuses to help adults end dependency on government benefits: $73,608.

A summer youth program through the Mahoning-Columbiana Training Association: $50,000.

All the programs begin July 1 and run for a year, except the MCTA program, which will run March 1 to Sept. 30, 2008.
