Forum set for Saturday to discuss job loss due to unfair trade
SALEM — The United Steelworkers announced that the union will sponsor a public forum to discuss the impact that unfair and illegal trade have had on American manufacturing jobs at 6 p.m. Saturday.
The event will be at USW Local 1538’s CIO Hall, 547 Prospect St.
In early February of this year, American Standard announced that the company was no longer interested in continuing its bath and kitchen business and the company proposed selling its plants, leaving thousands of employees’ futures up in the air, including the members of USW Local 1538 in Salem.
The USW has responded by organizing a public education forum to address this and the larger issues of job loss and unfair trade in the United States.
