Hitt’s double guides Rondinelli to 1-0 win


Bob Zanni’s two-hit shutout led Roth Brothers past Wharmby, 3-0.

STRUTHERS — Cory Hitt doubled home Tony Brunetti in the bottom of the seventh inning, lifting Rondinelli Tuxedo over Simon Roofing, 1-0, in a Class B League game Monday night at Cene Park.

Brunetti walked to lead off the inning.

Cory Nesbitt (3-0) scattered six hits and escaped a bases-loaded jam with one out in the top of the seventh inning.

Matt Durkin had two hits for Simon Roofing.

Roth Brothers 3, Wharmby 0

Bob Zanni (1-1) pitched a two-hit shutout to lead Roth Brothers (2-9).

He struck out five and walked one.

Pat Mulligan broke open a 1-0 game with a two-run triple in the top of the seventh inning.

Mark Babyak and Cory Johnson had singles for Wharmby (5-5).

Astro Falcons 7,
Youngs. Express 3

Astro scored all its runs in the second inning to erase a 2-0 deficit.

Drew Turocy homered for Astro (9-1), while Cameron Konop, Joe Koch and Joe Bako all had doubles.

Dave Brown (1-0) earned the win with a save by Nick Biamonte.

Kevin Monti and Greg Brown had two hits each for the Express.

Astro Falcons 11, Dave Sugar 0

Drew Turocy pitched a complete-game two-hitter and hit a triple to lead Astro Falcons Sunday night. Dave DeJacimo, Nick Biamonte and D.J. Haurin all had two hits apiece, including a double each, for Astro. Cameron Konop tripled and Mark Lapikas singled twice.

Andrew Grzebieniak hit a double for Dave Sugar.

Wharmby 6, Youngs. Express 0

John Thomas had a perfect game into the sixth inning and a no-hitter into the seventh. He struck out 10 and walked just one.

Cory Johnson’s two-run double in the first inning gave Wharmby an early lead. Brian Szabo and Thomas had three hits each.

R&J Trucking 7, Simon Roofing 5

R&J prevailed in eight innings. John Madeline and Tyler Manfull hit doubles for R&J — Manfull’s drove in two runs as part of a three-run fifth inning.

Class AA

YOUNGSTOWN — Grant Sevek had two hits, including a triple, and drove in two runs to lead Youngstown Metros over Skiffey Neopolitan Dental, 5-1, in a game between Youngstown and Warren Class AA League teams Sunday at Pemberton Park.

Adam Wigley also hit a triple for the Metros to support Alex Oles’ winning effort. Oles fanned six in four innings.

Jim Skiffey doubled for Skiffey Dental.

Joe Fox scattered six hits in a complete-game effort. He struck out four.

Dom Modarelli singled twice and doubled for the Metros, while Jim Pasquine and Grant Sevek also hit doubles. Tony Pozela singled twice.

Roth Bros. 7, Champion Marlins 3

Roth scored five runs in the fifth inning to erase a 3-2 deficit.

Josh Conkey earned the win and had three hits and three RBIs. Mike Sikorski and George Rohan added doubles.

Tom Popadak had three hits, including two doubles, and Eric Lance had two RBIs for Champion.

Youngs. Tamburro 12,
PI&I Express 5

Blair Lang pitched a nine-inning complete game, fanning eight for Tamburro.

Jason Savage had three hits for Tamburro, including a double, and Rob Tamburro homered and singled, driving in three runs. Ray Jaminet had two hits and a pair of RBIs, while Dave DiYorio and Lang had two hits each. DiYorio, Jason Savage and Erin Satterlee all doubled.

Mike O’Neill singled twice and had two RBIs for PI&I Express. Andy Holsople singled twice and doubled, while Dave Patrick finished with four hits and Tom Jones had three, including a triple.

Mahoning Valley Knights 19,
McMurphy/PO 3

Manoli Pahoulis hit a grand slam and single, and had six RBIs to lead the Knights. Rick DiMuzio, who had four RBIs, and Torrie Frangiamore both tripled, and Brett Dutton hit a double. Mike Evans had a double for McMurphy/PO.

Mahoning Valley Knights 3,
Reds 2

Kevin Prus struck out nine over seven innings. The Knights overcame a 2-1 deficit with single runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

Ryan Monti had two singles for the Knights and Rick DiMuzio had a pair of RBIs.

Kevin Lee and Mark Yartz had doubles for the Reds, and Phil Ciprian singled twice.

Callahan’s 11, Tri-County 3

Callahan’s scored five runs in the first inning. Don Marsh and Jarrett Partridge hit doubles, while Anthony Maruca singled twice. Marsh had three RBIs, while Cliff Panezich and Nick Pompeo had two each.

Dan Moniro and Matt Kerney had a pair of hits for Tri-County.
