Father and son make an intruder sorry he showed up

YOUNGSTOWN — A father and son team used everything but the kitchen sink to defend themselves during a home invasion.

Dennis Pixley, the 18-year-old accused of forcing his way into 3411 Belden Ave. on the South Side, was shot and lacerated with a cermonial axe around 11 p.m. Monday. A woman friend dropped the Woodcrest Avenue man off at St. Elizabeth Health Center, where he was in critical condition.

Here’s what Patrolman Bill Burton learned from those involved:

Pixley, wearing a bulletproof vest and a bandanna to cover his face, surprised Forrest Adams, 38, and his 13-year-old son, Galen Hobdy, when they arrived home and forced them to open the door at gunpoint. The intruder screamed that he wanted all their money.

Adams was eventually able to knock the gun away from Pixley and slash the intruder with the ceremonial axe. Adams then yelled for his son to grab the gun and shoot the intruder, which he did.

Adams said the suspect fled, possibly to a waiting Chevrolet Malibu.
