Dynamo 2, Crew 1

COLUMBUS — The Houston Dynamo got a little help from the opposing side on the way to their third consecutive win. Columbus’ Chad Marshall knocked in the winning goal — but into his own net. The Crew (1-4-5), last in the Eastern Conference, extended their winless skid to seven games. Key players Frankie Hejduk and Ezra Hendrickson were missing. The Dynamo took the lead for good in the 29th minute when Kelly Gray dribbled past Crew defender Rusty Pierce and centered a pass. The ball caromed off Marshall and into the Columbus goal. Houston’s Joseph Ngwenya and the Crew’s Alejandro Moreno scored three minutes apart midway through the first half.

United 4, Red Bulls 2

WASHINGTON — Ben Olsen had the first three-goal game of his career for D.C. United. Olsen, who has four goals in the past two home games, had not scored more than three goals in any of the previous three seasons for United. He has 24 goals in his MLS career, which began with United (4-3-2) in 1998. New York fell to 6-3-2. Luciano Emilio’s goal in the 49th minute broke a 1-1 tie and came on a crossing pass from Fred. Emilio’s shot into the right corner of the net beat diving goalie Ronald Waterreus for New York. Olsen scored his second goal in the 72nd minute, with assists from Brian Carroll and Christian Gomez. Olsen added his third goal, a shot from about 25 yards, in the 84th minute to make it 4-1, and New York’s Juan Pablo Angel scored a minute later to account for the final margin.
