Miguel Cotto delivers
KO over Zab Judah

NEW YORK — The Puerto Rican Day parade can’t be any better of a show than what Miguel Cotto and Zab Judah put on at a raucous Madison Square Garden.

And Cotto gave the sellout crowd what it came for: a knockout of one of its own.

The popular Puerto Rican welterweight thrilled his fans, who made up a majority of the filled-to-the-rafters Garden Saturday night, by stopping Brooklyn’s Judah in the 11th round to keep his WBA welterweight title.

With chants of “Cotto! Cotto!” and “Puerto Rico! Puerto Rico!” rocking the building, Cotto knocked down Judah earlier in the round before finishing off his 30th straight win at 49 seconds. It was the third straight year Cotto fought in the Garden on the eve of New York’s Puerto Rican Day parade, and he gave the raucous crowd of 20,658 a terrific show.

Cycling body plans
to work on image

BERLIN — Cycling’s world governing body has called a special meeting of all 20 ProTour teams before the Tour de France to discuss the sport’s growing image problem.

The UCI has convened the meeting in Geneva June 19 without outlining a specific agenda, German teams Gerolsteiner and T-Mobile said Sunday. Both teams believe the district attorney’s documents from the Spanish blood-doping scandal could be analyzed, while German media speculated a list of riders to be banned from the Tour might be named.

“There is no set agenda, it’s about the image of cycling,” Team Gerolsteiner manager Hans-Michael Holczer said. “I’m expecting before the Tour starts [that] something big will happen.”
