Garden, mill remain closed due to storms

Monday, June 11, 2007

YOUNGSTOWN — Fellows Riverside Gardens, Lanterman’s Mill and Old Mill Drive in Mill Creek MetroParks are closed due to damage from Friday’s storm.

The north side and the west side of the park closest to Fellows were hit the hardest, said Carol Potter, development and marketing director.

Fellows, the mill and Birch Hill Cabin are still without power, Potter said.

Potter estimates cleanup will take months to complete, but Fellows should reopen Tuesday at 10 a.m. Old Mill Drive will reopen as soon as Ohio Edison removes wires from the road, she said.

Maintenance crews are just checking the park’s trails, but Potter said that none have been impassible, as of 11:30 this morning.

Trees fell on the restrooms at Fellows in addition to one car. A second car was hit at the Glacier boathouse.

Staff and volunteers helped clean Fellows on Saturday so that the weekend weddings could still be held.
