Liberty gears up for first Night Out event

LIBERTY — Township officials for the first year have joined an annual national initiative against crime that township leaders hope will generate community support and encourage community activism.

The National Night Out has been held nationwide every year for the past 23 years.

Township safety services and township officials will take part in the 2007 National Night Out initiative Aug. 7. Township festivities will take place from 4 to 9 p.m. in Liberty Center Park.

June Smallwood, parks and special projects coordinator, said the township’s main event will include visits from the Mahoning Valley Law Enforcement Armored Vehicle, a car show, an air-filled bouncing device for kids, a visit from the MedEvac helicopter, softball and a concert.
