Indictments follow crime spree, motel standoff

YOUNGSTOWN – Bobby Mock, captured July 18 after a nine-hour standoff at a Liberty motel, has been indicted on 15 felony charges stemming from a crime spree. Mock, 38, of Canfield Road, was indicted Thursday after a direct presentment to a Mahoning County grand jury. The charges range from felonious assault to receiving stolen property to safecracking.

His alleged accomplice in some of the crimes, Brian Simione, 33, of Mayfield Avenue, was indicted on charges of burglary and possession of criminal tools. Both men were arrested at the Holiday Inn MetroPlex. Simione was taken into custody as the nine-hour standoff started, while Mock stayed in a room with a hostage, Simione’s wife Melissa Simione. Police confiscated two handguns after Mock surrendered when tear gas was fired into the motel room.

Police had gone to the motel to arrest Mock and Simione, who were wanted for the attempted break-in of an ATM machine in the lobby of St. Elizabeth Health Center.

Both are charged in connection with using an appliance dolly to remove an ATM   machine July 5 from the Cornersburg Sparkle Market on South Meridian Road.

Mock was also indicted by the grand jury for using a stolen van and truck in the theft of the ATM machine in Cornersburg and attempted theft at St. Elizabeth’s.
