Death of man in apartment fire ruled homicide

YOUNGSTOWN — The death of Stanley J. Makarski Jr. has been ruled a homicide by Mahoning County Coroner David M. Kennedy.

Makarski, 47, was found Tuesday afternoon inside his apartment at 208 Broadway St. after a fire in the dining room. A downstairs neighbor said she heard sounds of a fight coming from Makarski’s apartment and then later smelled smoke. The coroner released his ruling today.
