Federal grand jury indicts man for shooting ATF agent
YOUNGSTOWN — A federal grand jury in Cleveland has handed up a five-count indictment against 22-year-old William L. Amos that charges him with assaulting and attempting to kill an agent with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Amos, of Market Street, also is charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm and two counts of discharging a firearm during commission of a crime of violence.
The agent was seriously injured last week during an undercover operation on the South Side. Local charges against Amos will be dismissed now that the case is being prosecuted federally, said City Prosecutor Jay Macejko.
