Auto title clerk pleads innocent to theft
WARREN — Stella Colletti, 36, of Deer Creek Trail, Cortland, pleaded innocent Monday in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court to stealing $5,314 from her job as a deputy clerk in the Clerk of Courts, Auto Title Division, and had her passport taken.
An affidavit filed in support of an arrest warrant issued last week said Clerk of Courts Karen Infante Allen and her staff were notified of a problem on July 11.
U.S. Bank contacted the Auto Title Department in the Trumbull County Administration Building on High Street, asking why one of its customers had not received an auto title for a check that had already cleared.
Infante Allen determined that the check had cleared the Clerk of Court’s bank account on June 20, but there was no paperwork in the auto title office corresponding with the check.
The check had been deposited on a day when Coletti, a 17-year employee, had been serving as acting bookkeeper in place of one who was on sick leave.
