5 pit bulls returned; they weren't trained to fight
YOUNGSTOWN — The owners of five pit bulls seized by Mahoning County officials and city police earlier this week got their dogs back, but said news reports of the seizure might have led people to think the dogs were used in illegal dogfighting.
“These dogs are not fighters. These dogs are show dogs,” said Robert Taylor of Dayton, who arrived at the Mahoning County Dog Pound on Wednesday with a box of trophies he said the animals have won in shows around the country.
The dogs actually belonged to his son, LilRob Taylor, and LilRob’s fiancée, Dione Carter of DeSoto Avenue.
LilRob Taylor was killed in a motorcycle accident in June, and his father said he is now helping Carter take care of the animals. “These dogs are harmless. We breed these dogs for show,” he said.
