Wednesday, July 18, 2007

HERMITAGE, Pa. — A Sharpsville man was arrested after attacking his mother with a knife in the Giant Eagle parking lot.

Andrew Clarke, 31, of Victory Drive, Sharpsville, is charged with aggravated assault, criminal attempt at homicide, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and terroristic threats.

Police said he called his mother, Geraldine Anderson, 53, with whom he lives, at 10:42 p.m. Tuesday for a ride home. When she arrived at the supermarket, Clarke was agitated and told his mother to get out the car. When she refused, Clarke pulled out a knife and threatened to kill her, police said. Clarke did cut his mother’s hand as she tried to defend herself, they said. An employee trying to help Anderson was also threatened.

Police said that when they arrived, Clarke was holding the knife to his throat and told police to kill him. Police said they used a taser to subdue him.
